According to Speed Matters, the US has fallen to 28th in the world in average Internet connection speeds.

CWA contends US economic growth depends on high-speed Internet but is trailing far behind other countries.

You can link to the 2009 Report as well as the State Rankings.

Our Internet speed at this location for On-Site Technical Solutions was just ahead of 2nd place Japan but behind the world leader, South Korea. Of course our cable speed varies depending on what our neighbors are doing!
