Google Mobile Gets More Enterprise Friendly

Google has announced new administrative functions for Google Apps, but only for the iPhone, Nokia E series and Windows Mobile devices. This is good news for us at On-Site Technical Solutions in administering our customers accounts, although a significant number of our user base is Blackberry.

The new administrative functions include
  • Remotely wiping data from devices (Google mentions lost or stolen, but this can also be used for terminated employees)
  • Locking idle devices after a period of inactivity
  • Forcing passwords on mobile devices
  • Setting standards for passwords including minimum length, requiring letters, numbers and punctuation.
The mobile user must begin syncing the device with Google Apps to be able to remotely wipe the data from the user settings page.

More good news and functionality from Google Apps - now let's get that functionality moved to more devices! Interesting that Nexus One and Droid were not in this first wave - Google says they're next.

Here is the official Google Enterprise Blog post and the Google Mobile Blog post with the announcement.
