Choose Wisely in the Cloud

Moving to the cloud is changing technology and creating many issues we're all going to be dealing with for the next few years.

discussing the issue of URL shortening services going out of business because they can't make money.

Quoting from the article, "But besides the inconvenience to former users, the service’s abrupt fold poses raises questions about the security of URL shorteners and even the reliability of cloud-based services."

Other than making sure your URL shortening or other cloud service is not going belly up, one thing to take from this article is: BE CAREFUL.

As we move to the cloud, we'll have to ensure that the products we're using to run our businesses have a future and won't be leaving us without a solution because the vendor or product is no longer supported.

Microsoft's desktop monopoly, while despised by many, made technical decisions in the workplace much easier. Companies will now be faced with a multitude of (less expensive and perhaps less enduring) options, but will have to choose wisely.

The old model for businesses like On-Site Technical Solutions, Microsoft and the entire technology reseller channel is going away, but the business opportunities are not. Well, maybe the enormously profitable opportunities for Microsoft are gone, at least the cash cows known as Office and Windows.

Be careful in the cloud and get help if you need it. Makee sure your decisions are informed ones and you know the risks. Your business depends on it!
