iPhone vs Droid - some comparisons posted

Before anyone gets irritated that I'm supporting Droid over iPhone or vice versa, let me just say that when I talk to clients about mobile they know that we're happy to support both platforms in the business environment. We still have a few Blackberrys, but iPhone and Droid are the smartphones of choice. Internally we use both iPhones and Droids.


It boils down to a personal choice or the best pricing available for your business. Functionally we can get both to completely support the SMB.

I use a Droid, so I'm more comfortable talking about and supporting that platform. I don't do enough with the iPhone to make a solid comparison, but our techs tend to prefer the Droid. If you have a preference, let me know why!

With Apple Move to Verizon, a Shift in the Market

The New York Times is reporting that Apple is developing an iPhone for Verizon after years of only using ATT in the US. The question is, why wait this long? The answer: Google's Droid.

This NY Times article focuses on the impact to the smartphone market, but how much less competitive will ATT be with customers' ability to move to Verizon and keep the iPhone? 


At On-Site Technical Solutions we use both the iPhone and Droid. The verdict so far is that we give a slight edge to Droid because of speed, support for Adobe Flash and a replaceable battery. We counted being forced to use ATT as a negative for the iPhone, but it looks like Apple may be solving that problem. 


Microsoft is launching a new entry into the mobile market next week - Windows Phone 7. So far Microsoft has done miserably with mobile, and they may be too late to the market to make an impact.

Can't Answer a Call on my Droid

I'm having fun with my new Samsung Droid from ATT, but I did have a problem answering my first call. 


To answer a call, press the green phone icon that appears and slide it towards the small green dot that appears on the right of the screen. If you simply press it or don't slide it far enough the call will simply keep ringing until it goes to voice mail. 


This was certainly a boy do I feel stupid moment, but hey, it's my first phone of this type and this is for others who have had the same issue.
