Spend a Semester Without Microsoft Office

Lifehacker has a post with this title as part of their Back to School series. The focus of the article is on using Google Docs and Evernote instead of Microsoft Office. If this isn't your first time at this blog you probably know we're big on Google Apps, of which Google Docs is a (free) part. However, we always recommend spending the $50 per year for the premier edition of Google Apps rather than sticking with the free version. We have encountered issues in the free version that did not occur in the premier.

Evernote is presented as a free alternative to Microsoft's OneNote.

Most of our customers, businesses all, are using Google Docs with at least an older version of Microsoft Office. We have yet to convert an office completely to Google Docs, although we will have a few by the end of the year.

The article presents some interesting and valid reasons to use both Google Docs and Evernote. Students can find other free alternatives on the Internet, too.
