More On Verizon Getting the iPhone

It seems pretty clear that Verizon will be announcing Tuesday that it will be rolling out the iPhone, probably sometime in early February - I've seen February 3 tossed around a bit.

At On-Site Technical Solutions we usually recommend Verizon over ATT, although here in Orange County both carriers have dead spots. Until now that meant also recommending an Android phone over the iPhone. While most of us prefer the Droid to iPhone, we recommend either for the available business applications.

We won't be recommending that anyone pay any fees to ATT to move to Verizon with an iPhone - especially if they already have an iPhone. Not only will they be paying the early termination fee, but the ATT iPhones are not compatible with the Verizon network, and vice versa. That means buying a new phone when switching networks. Although it may be worth the switch if Verizon offers unlimited data plans which ATT no longer offers.

Below is another great post from Mashable that talks about the iPhone on Verizon, including the fees, compatibility  and potential impact on both carriers. Analysts seem to be estimating sales of 9-12 million iPhones on the Verizon network this year. We'll have to see how that ends up impacting the Android market share in the US.
