The BlackBerry Torch 9800 Arrives

It looks like the new BlackBerry Torch is an acceptable alternative for smartphones, but won't be a savior for BlackBerry sales going forward.

BlackBerry has been the enterprise choice for mobile for years because of its ability to handle email and remains a key player. RIM, the manufacturer of BlackBerrys, lost critical time to both Apple and Android by waiting this long to come out with the Torch. They haven't given anyone a reason to move from another platform to BlackBerry, which will be cause for concern in the future.

At On-Site Technical Solutions we're going to have iPhones, Droids and BlackBerrys, but the kids are going to make me be the resident BlackBerry holder. That shouldn't make BlackBerry very happy. As Gizmodo noted in its review,

If you don't already own a BlackBerry, you will not want this phone. And if you do, you still might not want it, even if it may very well be the "best BlackBerry ever."

Here are some links to reviews of the new BlackBerry:

HootSuite for Blackberry and another use for Google Apps

I'm a little behind on this, but Hootsuite is apparently finally coming out with a Blackberry tool.

Hootsuite for BlackBerry Now Accepting Beta Testers

Beta means don't use it unless you're ready to put up with bugs!

The market is full of apps to run multiple social media tools in one place, and Hootsuite is still my favorite. I manage Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts using Hootsuite but obviously haven't been using it on my Blackberry. I was actually thinking of moving to a Droid, but we like to make sure we're running the same tools as our clients and I am the Blackberry guy at On-Site Technical Solutions right now. We're letting the younger folks play with the newer stuff.

An interesting side note on this is how the link to sign up as a beta tester functions in that link above. It's a form in Google Apps that's a front end to a spreadsheet. Fill out the form and you've filled out a spreadsheet. This is a great demo of how Google Apps is transforming the workplace with a very large variety of tools.

Google Apps is building up an amazing set of tools available at an extraordinarily low price for businesses of any size. One of the casualties of that low price is the technical support for anything less than a business domain being down and not receiving or sending mail, but it is nonetheless an amazing business toolbox.

While Google Apps word processor and spreadsheet don't have the functionality of the Microsoft Office Suite, we're finding more customers who only need what's available in Google Apps, saving hundreds of dollars per desktop. Those that need the extra features simply keep paying for Microsoft licensing while paying the $50 per seat per year for the Google Apps functionality.

Get on board - the Cloud is here and you're going to end up there sooner than later!

6 Best iPad Apps for Business Users

The roller ball on my Blackberry quit working on Saturday and I thought I was going to trade it in for an iPhone (yes, we're on ATT). Lucky or unlucky for me, popping the ball and cleaning it with alcohol got it rolling again. So my move to an iPhone has been postponed for at least a while.

In the meantime, here is a post from Mashable listing one view of the 6 Best iPad Apps for Business Users.
